KL Rahul’s poor form continued when he was dismissed by Nathan Lyon in the 1st innings of the second test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Rahul has been struggling with his form since 2022. Despite his poor form, Rahul was preferred in India’s starting XI over the in-form Shubman Gill.
Mark Waugh who was commentating in star sports for Border Gavaskar Trophy slammed Rahul’s batting approach in this test series and Waugh wanted KL Rahul to believe in his ability and play free-flowing cricket.
“I think KL Rahul has just to back himself a little bit. He is scared of getting out. You cannot bat that way, you’ve got to be confident in your ability. He is just restricting himself. I’d love to see him bat freely and not worry about getting out,” Mark Waugh said on Star Sports.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar is too unhappy with the Indian vice-captain and is more confused about playing the ball on the front foot or back foot.
“He doesn’t know whether to go back or come forward. With KL Rahul, he takes his front foot across and the ball is turning into you, you have to play with a straight bat but when you take your front foot across like that you are left with no choice but to play with an angled bat. The chances of you missing the ball are more,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
The match is still very well balanced after Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel put up a 100-run partnership for the 8th wicket. For Australia, Nathan Lyon picked with 5 wicket haul.
Great To See Him Back In Form – Mark Waugh Lauds Nathan Lyon For His 5-Wicket Haul
Nathan Lyon has been an impressive performer for Australia in bowling in the second test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Mark Waugh praised Lyon for his bowling effort and for picking up an important 5-wicket haul.
“Yeah, he is always a big player in these conditions, Nathan Lyon. I felt he was a little bit off his game and Todd Murphy outshone him in Nagpur. Lyon bowled beautifully today and got his pace right,” Waugh stated.

Waugh also stressed that Lyon will important member of Australia in the series and will be a danger for India in the second innings.
“He’s bowled nice and straight. He’s picked up 5 wickets and will be a danger in the second innings. But great to see him back in form because he is a major threat for India throughout this series,” Waugh added.
